Since January 1, 2017 the basic course ‘LNG as fuel’ is, according to the IGF Code, mandatory for crew on vessels using gases or other low-flashpoint fuels. The objective of the IGF Code is to minimize the risks for the ship, crew and surroundings. The training requirements have been elaborated in the STCW regulations for seafarers. The basic course is intended to introduce the crew members with specific characteristics of LNG and the corresponding work procedures. The course has received recognition from the Inspection Living Environment and Transport (Inspectie Leefomgeving en Transport or ILT).
During the basic course ‘LNG as Fuel’ the emphasis is put on the characteristics of and working with LNG or other low flash-point fuels. Also plenty attention is paid to the practice, such as bunkering and incident control. The practical component takes place in the Fire & Safety Training Centre and in the tanker practice lab. The course is started with E-learning modules.
