  • The objectives of the Engine Room Resource Management (ERM) are optimizing your knowledge and skills of leadership and teamwork at operational and management level on board merchant vessels.

    During high risks and high work pressure an engine room team should be able to perform efficient and work safe at all times.

    The course is in accordance with the Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978, as amended. According section A-III/1 and A-III/2 and A-III/6.  The ERM course is type approved and accredited by Classification society DNV-GL.

  • During the four-day Engine room Resource Management (ERM) course you will encounter realistic exercises on our Full Mission Engine Room simulator. These exercises are based on already gained  experienced knowledge in engine rooms

    The following learning objectives are achieved :

    The knowledge and capacity to apply effective resource management by:

    • to prioritize and allocate resources
    • effective communication on board and ashore
    • decisions are taken in line with how experienced the team is to encourage and apply assertiveness and leadership
    • to obtain and maintain situational awareness

    You have practical knowledge of personnel management and educational roadmaps

    You have knowledge of related international maritime conventions and national legislation including guidelines and recommendations

    You have the capacity of applying workload management, during :

    • planning and coordination
    • task distribution amongst all personnel
    • set limitations of time and means
    • prioritization

    You have the knowledge and the capacity to apply decision making techniques during:

    • situation and risk assessments
    • identification and consideration of generated options
    • selecting the flow of work
    • evaluation the effectiveness
  • At the end of this course:

    • you know how to prepare and keep the engine room running in a safe and efficient manner
    • you possess the skills to steer the engine room team
    • you are aware of international maritime conventions and national legislation
    • you are able to make optimal use of the individual qualities of the team members
    • you are able to apply decision making techniques
  • You are working as an engineer in the engine room of a merchant vessel  or you are currently receiving education as an engineer at operational level or  you have completed your engineer apprentice ship  at sea.

    You are working in the maritime sector and will be a part of an operational engine room team member.

  • Entry requirements

    If you want to follow this course, then you need to be familiar familiarized with engine room activities on board. This experience is necessary in order to understand that leadership and teamwork are essential components at operational level.
